What is a Healthy Diet & Program?
In your journey to achieving your weight loss goals, a healthy diet is as important as your exercise program. Your body needs vitamins and minerals, and if you don’t have a healthy diet, you will not be able to meet your goals for losing weight.
A healthy diet is one that works with your body instead of against it to help you lose weight. It gives you all the vitamins and minerals you need to be healthy and gives you energy during the day. Some diets require you to refrain from eating certain things, and for some people, this can be more harmful than helpful.
A healthy diet is also balanced. When it comes to what you should eat, “healthy” and “balanced” should always go hand in hand. When you look at the food pyramid, you can see that the food groups are almost all the same size, indicating you should be sure to balance your food groups when you eat. Each food group provides different nutrients for your body, and if you don’t include all the food groups in your diet, you may be missing important vitamins and minerals.
Part of balancing a healthy, nutritious diet also includes physical activity, which is also included on the food pyramid. You can’t just rely on your food to lose weight, just as you can’t assume exercising daily will help you lose weight if you only eat junk food every day.
The level of activity in which you participate is up to you. The U.S. Department of Agriculture recommends moderate to vigorous physical activity that averages to thirty minutes each day. Beyond this recommendation, there is a lot of leeway for you to incorporate physical activity into a healthy diet. Something as simple as walking may be enough for you, while others may decide they would rather have a complex weight lifting schedule.
In determining your healthy weight loss program, you may want to consult your physician, or a dietician or nutritionist to give you insight into the best foods for your body. This information will give you the foundation of knowledge to make decisions on your own about what a healthy diet means for you. Different bodies process foods differently. To find a healthy diet, you have to find one that works for your individual body.
Just as there are no two people who are exactly alike, there is no simple “right” way to a healthy regimine for everyone. You have to figure out what is best for your body, and make your own way to achieving your weight loss goals. And it starts with a healthy diet.
